Scientists Discover Potential Drug To Block AIDS In Humans

Scientist at the Gladstone Institutes have identified the precise chain of molecular events in the human body that drives the death of most of the immune system’s CD4 T cells as an HIV infection leads to AIDS.
Further, they have identified an existing anti-inflammatory drug that in laboratory tests blocks the death of these cells — and now are planning a Phase 2 clinical trial to determine if this drug or a similar drug can prevent HIV-infected people from developing AIDS.

Rivers State Has Highest HIV/AIDS Rate In Nigeria – FG

 The Federal Government has released the 2012 National HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health Survey-Plus which indicates that Nigeria now has HIV prevalence rate of 3.4 per cent.
The annual survey, which was conducted to monitor the HIV/AIDS epidemic among the country’s population, also monitors other sexual and reproductive health indicators.
Rivers State is leading other states of the country with a prevalence rate of 15.2 per cent.
